ATTICA, Ohio – Sprint car fans are seeing something truly historic. Elk Grove, California’s Kyle Larson completely dominated at Attica Raceway Park Tuesday, July 14, winning his first Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic Presented by Racing Optics for his 21st total victory of 2020 in just the last couple of months.

Larson’s victory in the 32nd Annual Brad Doty Classic was his third ever win at Attica and his fourth career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series victory.

The only time in the 40-lap feature he faced any challenge was in lapped traffic with just nine laps to go when 10 time outlaw champion Donny Schatz closed to within .8 of a second. Larson made a fantastic move to split to lapped cars on lap 33 to pull away. Schatz got one more opportunity at Larson when the caution flew with four laps to go, but Larson was just too strong, pulling away for the victory.

“The car was really good. In the dash I could look back and see everyone half a track behind me. So I knew we had a good car. They watered it there before the feature and it took a little bit for it to get blown off to the top. I felt good still but when I got to within a straight away from lapped traffic I couldn’t see the cushion and I’d start making mistakes and thought I could cheat the corner and slide myself and I didn’t feel very good doing that. I saw Donny (Schatz) show his nose a couple of times there and I knew I was in trouble and I needed to get aggressive to get by those two lapped cars that were side by side. I was able to do that and get some good consistent laps together and get away from him. That’s three outlaw wins in a row for us so that’s really cool and special,” said Larson beside his Finley Farms/Tarlton & Son/Glenn Styres Racing/Durst Inc./Lucas Oil Products backed #57.

“Thanks to Brad Doty for promoting this race. It’s a race everyone looks forward to running. Brad’s such a nice guy and has done so much for this sport. It’s cool to get the opportunity to run his race. I’ve been close. I think I got beat by Donny last time we ran here for the Doty. Great to win in front of a packed house,” added Larson.

Schatz, a four time Brad Doty Classic winner, ran second the entire race and coupled with another bad night for Brad Sweet, closed the point battle for the World of Outlaw NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship.

“In open race track he (Larson) was awful quick. We needed to stay in traffic. Towards end there we got in traffic and got close but then that caution. It was a solid night and my guys worked hard. I’m proud to drive this race car,” said Schatz beside his Carquest/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Curb.com/Digital Ally backed #15.

Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild battled with his dad, Jac, throughout the feature and settled for third place.

“That was probably the most fun ever racing with Dad. It’s cool to be doing it up front with the best I the world. Obviously we want to win these races but we’ll take a podium and just keep working. Ripper, Nicholas and Drew have been working hard and it shows. We keep picking off these good races and our bad nights aren’t so bad and the wins will come. It’s cool to get back here and race. I grew up racing here and I have quite a few laps here. I want to get that Doty win,” said Haudenschild beside his NOS/ZMax/West TN Expediting/Hunt Bros. Pizza/EZ Go backed #17.

Larson and Schatz brought the field to green for the feature with Larson pulling out to a commanding lead over Schatz, Sheldon Haudenschild, David Gravel, Jac Haudenschild and Daryn Pittman. A caution on lap four kept the field close but again when the green flew Larson quickly pulled away.

Larson’s lead was two seconds when he caught the back of the pack on lap 10.  Meanwhile Sheldon and Jac Haudenschild put on a show battling for third. Lapped traffic allowed Schatz to close with Jac Haudenschild also narrowing the gap.  But a red on lap 17 gave Larson a clear track and on the restart he was able to pull away again.

Another red flag on lap 19 again put Schatz on Larson’s rear bumper with Jac Haudenschild, Sheldon Haudenschild, Parker Price-Miller and Pittman in pursuit. Just three laps back under green and Larson’s lead was over a second and a half. The battle for fifth was intense though involving Pittman, Parker Price-Miller and Logan Schuchart, up from 11th starting spot.

Another caution flew on lap 24 and again with clean air Larson built his lead to 1.5 seconds within three laps of green flag racing. However, Larson quickly found the back of the pack by lap 30 and his lead shrunk to .8 seconds as Schatz dove under the leader as they raced through traffic. Larson split the two lapped cars with seven laps to go and drove away. Only a caution on lap 36 slowed his march to the checkers.

Larson took the win by 1.2 seconds over Schatz, Sheldon Haudenschild, hard-charger Logan Schuchart and Jac Haudenschild.

It was announced the World of Outlaws will return to Attica Raceway Park on Friday, July 31. Advanced general admission tickets (there will be no reserved seating) are available on the World of Outlaws website.

ATTICA, Ohio – Cap Henry defended home turf Friday at Attica Raceway Park. The Republic, Ohio driver regained the lead on lap 35 and drove to his third win of the season at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speed plant, defeating the invading Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions to open the Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek Presented by Hercules Tires.

It was Henry’s eighth career win at Attica and his second All Star victory coming on the 126th appearance of the series at the track on Ohio CAT/Baumann Auto Group/Ohio Laborers Night.

“I was really nervous leading on that restart (on lap 20). Wasn’t really sure what I was doing before hand was right. I knew them guys were real good. Buddy (Kofoid) got by and kind of pulled me a little bit and we kind of kept creeping in and creeping in. Traffic was so hard to pass…you couldn’t find any where to get around them. I had to wait with Buddy and when I got next to him I had to go. I couldn’t give him the opportunity to take my line away,” said Henry beside his Dragon’s Milk White/Beer Barrel Bourbon/Pro Auto Wraps/FK Rod Ends backed machine.

So far this season at Attica, Henry has three wins, a third and a ninth place finish to lead the track points. He picked up an extra $1,000 from the track for defeating the All Stars.

“Brett and Patty Lane gave me a great opportunity here and we continue to make the most of it. Zack (Meyers) came on board last year and this is incredible. I’ve come so close to winning one of these speedweek races here and to finally knock one off is so cool,” said the former All Star rookie of the year.

Defending All Star champion Aaron Reutzel jumped out to the early lead of the 40-lap feature with Buddy Kofoid and fifth starter Henry staying close. Henry took second on lap three and began to close on Reutzel as the leaders raced into heavy lapped traffic by lap 10.

Henry took the lead with a low move on lap 12 with Reutzel now having his hands full with Kofoid while Cale Thomas stayed within striking distance. Kofoid was able to wrestle the runner-up spot away on lap 15 and closed on Henry. The only caution fell on lap 20 when a lapped car spun right in front of the battle for second involving Kofoid, Thomas and Reutzel. Thomas made contact but kept going.

On the restart Kofoid made his move, driving into the lead. The California native began to pull away but with eight laps to go, Henry started to close the gap. Henry was able to sneak the nose of his car under Kofoid on lap 35 to take the lead. Henry was patient with the lapped cars, never pushing the issue the final five laps to score the win over Kofoid, Reutzel, Thomas and Cale Conley.

Britton, Michigan’s Devin Shiels, Attica’s 2017 late model champion, hung around the top five throughout the first 13 laps of the Propane.com/Dirt Nerds Podcast late model feature before making his move to take the lead. A caution with three laps to go and another with just one lap remaining gave Jon Henry a couple of shots at Shiels but he was too strong on the bottom of the track and scored his seventh career Attica win.

“I wish I’d have flipped my nose under that tractor tire and got it off the track sooner to stay green. I want to thank my dad and son and Denny for coming down and helping us every week here. Dirt Nerds Pod Cast, Rally’s Hamburgers, Dundee Products, Magic Fountain Auto Wash and Mini Storage…thanks. And all the guys that help us, Denny, Braden to my dad…everybody,” said Shiels.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, July 10 with the late models, 305 sprints and dirt trucks in action.

32nd Annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic set for July 14 at Attica Raceway Park

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, July 2, 2020

ATTICA, Ohio – There’s no doubt we are living in strange times. But one thing remains constant – the Brad Doty Classic. The 32nd Annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic Presented by Racing Optics will take place at Attica Raceway Park on Tuesday, July 14 featuring the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. This will be the first Ohio appearance of the year for the World of Outlaws.
And, the event – at least for 2020 – has a rain date – Wednesday, July 15. The BDC will pay the feature winner $10,000 and it will be a full World of Outlaws purse.

“We are so blessed to have all our marketing partners like Ohio Logistics, Racing Optics, JEGS Performance, Priority Aviation, Callie’s Performance Products and joining us this year is Gill Construction of Port Clinton, Ohio. Without them it would be very difficult to make this event successful, especially in these strange times,” said Brad Doty, Co-Promoter of the BDC.

Those fans who already purchased reserved seats for the 32nd Annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic Presented by Racing Optics will get their seats. However, no more reserved seats will be sold. There will be a limited number of pre-sale general admission tickets available through the World of Outlaws at www.worldofoutlaws.com or go to www.atticaracewaypark.com and click on the Brad Doty Classic banner. Tickets are $35 for those 11 years of age and up with kids 10 and under getting in free. Also, anyone can purchase a pit pass on race day starting at 3 p.m.

Those attending are being asked to adhere to the state’s social distancing guidelines including not bringing those with underlying health issues, immunocompromised individuals and those the Center of Disease Control say are most at risk. If you have a fever or other symptoms please stay home and it is highly suggested fans and race team members wear masks.

Rain claimed the original date for the Brad Doty Classic in 2019. However, Doty and Attica officials worked with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions and the event was rescheduled for the second night of the Attica Ambush on Aug. 31.

Jonestown, Pennsylvania driver Brock Zearfoss took advantage when leader Aaron Reutzel suffered mechanical issues with 12 laps to go to take the $10,000 Brad Doty Classic Payday.

This year will mark the 15th time the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series has sanctioned the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic Presented by Racing Optics. There have been 23 different winners in the 29 contested Brad Doty Classic features (2 have been rained out).
