Wilson Gets Attica 305 Sprint Win; Henry Finds Victory Lane In Late Models; Andy Keegan Scores 1st Career Win In Trucks
By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) Friday the 13th was lucky for Greg Wilson. The two-time All Star champion piloted the Junior Felver owned #13 to victory in the 305 sprints at Attica Raceway Park . Jon Henry, who claimed eight victories at Attica in 2011, is figuring out his new car and held off a charging Matt Miller for the victory in the late model feature. And, Andy Keegan led all 15 laps of the dirt truck main to claim his first ever feature victory on UUI/Bazell Race Fuels Night.
Wilson inherited the lead with four laps to go after front runners D.J. Foos and Caleb Griffith – who had been trading slide jobs – crashed in turn four. Wilson, who finished third in the All Star feature last Saturday at Attica , scored his third career 305 sprint victory.
“Last week I made the comment about running third and maybe the best car didn’t win. What I meant by that was I thought we were pretty good at the end of the race. But those two guys last week had one hell of a race and it was cool to watch and it was cool to see Craig Mintz win. But tonight…hell, we were a third place car and those guys got racing hard and they just bumped there a little bit…we kind of got lucky,” said Wilson beside the Hampshire Racing Engines, Anderson Automotive, Felver’s Custom Cabinets backed #13.
“I have to thank Junior for bringing this thing out and letting me run it a little bit…it’s one of our old race cars. BK (Brian Kemenah) came over and tweaked on it a little bit,” continued Wilson . “I want to thank the fans for coming out…it’s a little bit chilly. Our goal is to build and get confidence and Brian and I to race together and get the feel for things. Come Speedweek and the month of money that’s what our goal is.”
In the Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Model feature, fourth place starter Jon Henry drove under Ryan Missler for the lead on lap three and looked like he was going to cruise to the win. However, 11th place starter Matt Miller was rim-riding in the Rick DeLong #3 and raced to Henry’s outside with five laps to go. The pair raced side-by-side until Miller slipped over the cushion in turn two with three laps to go, falling back to third. Henry would not budge off the bottom on route to his 10th career Attica victory.
“I could hear someone back there and told myself it’s time to get up on the wheel. Thank goodness he slipped up there or I might have been in trouble,” said Henry beside his Fultz Fabrication backed machine. “We are starting to get this new Rocket figured out. We changed a lot on this from last week.”

Vickery, Ohio’s Andy Keegan survived a few restarts and a last lap, last corner bobble to score his first ever feature win in the Bob’s Machine Shop/BMS Engines Dirt Truck main.
“This is awesome. I almost screwed up there on that last lap, but I held on,” said Keegan, who is in his second year of racing.
“I have to thank my sponsors, G&H Restoration, Log Home Dreams and B&K Auto and especially my crew chief Arden Gowitzka. He couldn’t be here tonight, but he worked his tail off on this thing all winter,” added Keegan.

Summit UMP Late Models – Jon Henry #15
In the 25-lap late model main, Ryan Missler grabbed the lead at the drop of the green, but outside front row starter Chester Elliott spun to necessitate a complete restart. Again when the green flew, Missler bolted into the lead with Henry, Scott Phillips, Chris Ross, Mike Bores, Ryan Markham and Ky Harper in tow. Henry would drive under Missler for the lead on the third lap as the caution flew when John Bores and Phillips spun in separate incidents. On the restart Henry would pull away while Mike Bores followed his tire tracks into second with Missler fighting with Harper, Markham and a charging Matt Miller for third.
Harper would take third on lap seven and blasted past Bores for second a lap later. Henry was steadily pulling away as Harper tried to hold off Bores and Miller. Miller, using the top of the track, would drive around Bores for third on lap 14 and quickly closed on Harper. Henry, meanwhile, had caught the back of the pack and they were racing three wide in front of him, allowing Harper and Miller to rapidly close. However, Dan Wallace would stop in turn one on lap 15 to bring out the yellow flag. The good news for Henry was he now had a clear track…the bad news was he had a hungry Harper and Miller on his rear bumper.
On the restart, Miller would drive to Harper’s outside and would take the runner-up spot on lap 17. Miller would then start to eat into Henry’s lead and by lap 20, was racing to the leader’s outside. Henry and Miller raced side-by-side over the next two laps until Miller slipped over the cushion in turn two, allowing Henry to get away and Harper to slide back into second. Henry would cruise to the win over Harper, Miller, Mike Bores and Missler.

Fremont Fence 305 Sprints – Greg Wilson #13
In the Fremont Fence 305 Sprint main, Fremont, Ohio ’s D.J. Foos, who had won all three features at Attica so far in 2011, would charge to the lead from his outside front row starting spot with Wilson, Griffith, Dustin Dinan, Paul Weaver and Jamie Miller in tow. The action would grind to a halt after one lap was recorded when Jim Cushing flipped (he was okay). On the restart Foos would pull away from Wilson who was locked in a battle with Griffith for second. Griffith would take the runner-up spot on lap four, but could not eat into Foos’ lead.
However, when Foos encountered lapped traffic by the eighth circuit, Griffith would close quickly, with Wilson, Weaver, Nate Dussel, Miller and Nate Reeser giving chase. With eight laps to go, Griffith was not charging to Foos’ outside. This would begin a trading of slide jobs with Foos sliding Griffith in turns one and two and Griffith returning the favor in three and four. A caution when Reeser and Ross Moore spun in separate incidents on lap 19 would set up a classic duel.
When the green came back out, Foos and Griffith continued their exchange of maneuvers. As they came down to complete the 22nd lap, Griffith and Foos tangled exiting turn four, sending both flipping (both were uninjured). With four laps to go, the restart order was now Wilson , Dussel, Dinan, 15th starter Jordan Ryan, Weaver and Miller. Wilson would cruise to the victory over Dussel, Weaver, Dinan and Ryan.

Bob’s Machine Shop Dirt Trucks – Andy Keegan #0
In the 15-lap dirt truck main, Keegan and Steve Endicott would lead the field to the green with Keegan gaining the advantage. Keegan could not shake Endicott as Jeff Wank, Art Ball and Daniel Roepke battled hard for third. The first caution would fly on lap five for a Dana Frey Spin. On the restart, Bob Dible would spin to necessitate another restart. Each time the young Keegan would hit his marks perfectly to maintain the lead. Keegan would pull away slightly as Endicott now found himself locked in a battle with Wank, Ball and Roepke as Brian Sorg, Willie Keegan and Dwight Waltermeier raced each other hard for sixth.
The final caution for a Chuck Roelle spin would bunch up the field on lap 9. Once again, Keegan held the point on the restart while Endicott maintained his battle with Wank, Ball and Roepke. Both Wank and Ball would drive under Endicott as the white flag flew with Keegan holding a two truck length lead. However, as Keegan drove into turn three on the final lap, he got into the cushion hard, upsetting the handling of his truck. He was able to gather it back in and drove to the checkers over Wank, Ball, Endicott and Roepke. Attica Raceway Park will kick off the 2012 season for the Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship series on Friday, April 20, with the UMP Late Models and 305 Sprints in competition.
