Sebetto, Henry, Weaver, Keegan Take Attica Wins; Jacobs, Missler, Dussel, Dible Earn Championships

By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) Bryan Sebetto did everything he could to take the Attica Raceway Park track championship for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 Sprints….but came up eight points short.

Sebetto came into Saturday’s Kistler Racing Products/All Pro Cylinder Head Mark Keegan Classic Championship Night third in the points, just a few behind Dean Jacobs. With five laps to go, Sebetto was in second and Jacobs was in eighth and if Sebetto could win and Jacobs would not have advanced any positions, Sebetto would have claimed the track title. When Sebetto passed six time Attica champ Byron Reed for the lead with three laps to go, it looked like that might happen. But, Jacobs got up on the wheel of his Seeling owned machine and finished fifth to earn his Attica championship.

“I didn’t have a very good car. We have a problem right now and we don’t know what it is. We’re blistering a right rear tire and we haven’t done that all year. Something is bound up or something…hopefully we will get it figured out and not let this FAST deal get away from us,” said Jacobs beside his Northwest Ohio Towing & Recovery/NAPA Truck and Auto Center backed #97.

“This is pretty cool, but we’re after the big prize and we have to quit doing this,” added Jacobs who became only the seventh driver to claim a 410 sprint title at Attica since the track opened in 1988.

With the $3,000 victory on a Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title Championship points race night, Sebetto no leads the quest for the Kistler Cup and its $10,000 pay day with just one more FAST event remaining, that coming at Fremont Speedway on Sept. 10. Sebetto leads Jacobs by just 15 points.

Bellevue, Ohio’s Ryan Missler suffered mechanical woes while leading the Fultz Fabrications and Speed Shop UMP Late Model feature and dropped out. But, his consistent top 10 finishes all year was good enough to earn him his third straight Attica track championship.

Ada, Ohio’s Jon Henry passed five time Attica champion Larry Kingseed with three laps to go to claim his eight Attica late model win of the year. Henry has 14 overall victories in 2011.

“We had this one…we’ve been battling ignition problems the past couple of weeks. The car has been great…Dennis Level builds a hell of a motor…it’s fine, it’s an ignition problem. We had them covered tonight…the car was perfect. I just wish we could have been the only car on the horse track tonight,” said Missler of his track title run.

“I have to thank Taze DJ Service, Quality Welding, Terry McConnell Excavating, Bellevue Beverage Center , J&H Concrete, Twin Lakes Golf Course, York Fabrication and all the supporters,” added Missler.

In the Fremont Fence 305 Sprint feature, Fremont , Ohio ’s Paul Weaver held off Paige Polyak to claim his second straight victory and fourth win of the season. It was his 28th career victory to lead all drivers in the division.

With his fourth place finish, Bradner , Ohio ’s Nate Dussel would wrap up his first career track championship in the 305 sprints.

“This is huge. I owe it all to these guys,” said Dussel pointing to his crew. “When they were pushing out the 410 feature we found out the front end was messed up so we had to rip the whole front end out of it and that’s because of all the hard work we put in this winter…to make sure we had spares.”

“I couldn’t have done this without Scott Gressman, Dave Deyo, Bill…this is only partially me,” added Dussel beside his Berrier Fabrication/Dussel Welding backed machine.

In the Computer Man Dirt Trucks, Willie Keegan held off Cory Ward for his second straight feature win. With his fourth place finish, Fostoria ’s Bob Dible claimed his first ever track championship.

“It’s been a long 10 years coming but I knew something good would happen. I just needed a year when I could keep everything together and stay out of trouble and Attica seemed the place to do that this year,” said Dible beside his Bob’s Machine Shop/BMS Engines backed #17. “Coming over hear I always feel I can be one of the guys to beat and I have a lot of fun racing here.”

FAST 410 Sprints – Bryan Sebetto #16
In the 30 lap 410 sprint feature, Todd Kane would grab the early lead with Reed, Caleb Helms, Kody Kinser, Craig Mintz and Sebetto in tow. Following a Chris Andrews crash, Mintz would drive into third on the restart. With four laps in, Sebetto would vault into the fourth position. Reed would drive under Kane for the lead on lap 12 with Mintz and Sebetto dicing it out for third. Both would drive by Kane on lap 17 as Reed caught the back of the pack.

Reed would continue to lead as Sebetto got around Mintz for second on lap 19. Helms would spin on lap 21 to bring out the caution with the running order Reed, Sebetto, Mintz, 11th starter Sam Hafertepe Jr., Phil Gressman and Kane. Hafertepe would dispose of Mintz for third on lap 23 while Sebetto began to slowly reel in Reed. The final caution would fly for another Helms spin on lap 25. On the ensuing restart, Sebetto and Hafertepe pressured Reed and on lap 27, Sebetto would drive to the high side exiting turn two to grab the top spot. Sebetto would go on to the victory while Hafertepe passed Reed on the last lap for second. Mintz and Dean Jacobs would round out the top five.

“If I couldn’t win the track championship I’m glad Dean won it…he’s one of my good buddies. We ended up second in the points here and took the lead in the FAST points…definitely needed that…that’s the one that pays the big money,” said Sebetto beside his JLH General Contractors/Steven Mapus Tools/Wendy’s Restaurant/Adkins Fence backed #16. “It’s going to be interesting that last FAST race at Fremont . Especially the way I’ve been qualifying…I’ll probably be starting back of the pack.”

“I had to race any where I could go tonight. I was dive bombing people in three and four. There was probably about a six inch strip of moisture at the top of one and two and I could catch that and it would keep the car straight. On that last caution I yanked the wing all the way back and told myself I’m giving it all she’s got,” added Sebetto of his Burmeister owned machine. “I have to thank the Burmeister family for believing in me and keeping me in the race car even when I tear it up and my whole crew who work their tails off.”

Fultz UMP Late Models – Jon Henry #15
Larry Kingseed to take the lead in the late model feature with Missler, Ernie Haynes, Kyle Perry and Ken Hahn giving chase. Missler would drive around Kingseed into the lead on lap five and looked headed to his first win of the season. But when the caution flew on lap 11 when Brandon Perkins and Mike Hudson tangled, Missler would exit the track with mechanical problems, handing the lead back to Kingseed.

Kingseed would be hounded by 12th place starter Justin Chance as they ran nose to tail on the bottom groove while Haynes was fighting with Hahn and Henry for third. Following a caution on lap 19 for Michael Stiltner II, the running order was Kingseed, Chance, Henry, Hahn and Haynes. A lap and another caution for a Steve Sabo, John Bores tangle. On the restart Henry would drive around Chance into second. The caution would fly again on lap 21 for a Ky Harper spin.

With Kingseed and Chance running his traditional bottom groove, Henry moved up to the middle and passed Kingseed for the lead on lap 23. He would go on to take the win with Kingseed, Hahn, Chance and Rocky Owens rounding out the top five.

“Just give me four wheels and I’ll do what ever I can to get to the front. I have to thank the people who support me…the JLH Company, Fultz Fabrications…I’ll tell you what, we bent that clip last week and Steve is putting that back together and this is my back-up car we got out tonight,” said Henry beside his www.jonhenryracing.com, Share the experience backed #15. “It doesn’t really matter what car I’m in just get me in a car and we’ll go out and to the best I can.”

Fremont Fence 305 Sprints – Paul Weaver #1W
Weaver would grab the lead at the drop of the green in the 305 sprint feature with Dussel, Polyak, Seth Schneider, Jason Keckler and D.J. Foos in tow. Foos would move into fourth on lap four and following a caution for a Junior Felver spin on lap five, it became a tremendous four car battle for the lead. The red would fly on lap six when Josh Harrison and Jim Peterman tangled, sending Peterman tumbling. On the restart Polyak would drive around Dussel into the runner-up spot and set her sights on Weaver.

When Weaver hit lapped traffic on lap 12, Polyak closed quickly while Dussel and Foos battled for third. With seven laps to go Polyak raced under Weaver as they continued to battle for the lead. Dussel would sloe close with four laps to go. Meanwhile Caleb Griffith had charged from his 14th starting spot into fourth on lap 21 and around Dussel into third as the white flag flew. Once clear of traffic, Weaver would pull away for the win with Polyak, Griffith, Dussel and Stuart Brubaker rounding out the top five.

“The whole clean air deal was the biggest thing. We got up to lapped traffic and she reeled me in and caught me off guard and I had to run a little harder. That caution with three to go gave me a clear track…that was big,” said Weaver beside his Hampshire Engines/M&L Excavating/Spanky’s Pizza backed #1w.

Computer Man Dirt Trucks – Willie Keegan #P51
Willie Keegan would grab the lead in the dirt truck feature with Greg Summit, Art Ball, Chuck Roelle and Dan Hennig in pursuit. After a lap was completed, the caution would fly for Art Ball and Greg Summit spins. That would put Roelle on the rear bumper of Keegan with Hennig, Cory Ward and Curt Inks in tow. Following a Brian Arnold spin on lap three, Keegan and Roelle would battle for the lead with Hennig and Ward right on their bumpers.

Ward would grab second on lap seven with Roelle trying to fight back. Ward would race inside Keegan for the lead with five laps to go. The pair would race side by side until the caution flew after the white flag had been displayed. In the one lap shoot-out, Keegan was able to hold off Ward for the win while Roelle, Dible and Ball would round out the top five.

“This is a fast buggy…told you last week it was fast. I’m just now starting to get used to it. When we were racing to the checkered I could see Cory and just said go baby go,” said Keegan beside his Schiets Motorsports/Chaney Roofing/Computer Loft backed #P51.

Attica Raceway Park will wrap up the 2011 season with the Baumann Auto Group Attica Ambush featuring the All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars on Saturday, Sept. 3.

2011 Track Championships On The Line

By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) For the first time since Attica Raceway Park opened in 1988, Mark Keegan will not be vying for a track championship. The track’s all-time feature winner retired prior to the 2011 season. However, “ Ohio ’s Finest Racing” speedplant will pay tribute to Keegan Saturday, Aug. 27 with the running of the Mark Keegan Classic on Kistler Racing Products/All Pro Heads Season Championship Night.

The drivers in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 Sprints; Fultz Fabrications and Speed Shop UMP Late Models; Fremont Fence 305 Sprints; and Computer Man Dirt Trucks will be competing for double points. And, for the 410 sprints, the possibility of a lot of money is on the line as it is the next-to-last race in the Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title (FAST) Championship Series and its $10,000 prize.

In the 410 sprints, Dean Jacobs holds a narrow 21 point advantage over Brandon Martin while Bryan Sebetto is only 30 points out in third and six-time and defending track champion Byron Reed sits 92 points out. Jacobs holds a slim five-point lead in the FAST standings over Sebetto, who claimed his first Attica win of the season last Saturday. Defending FAST champion Reed is only 27 points back in the quest for the Kistler Cup. The 2009 FAST champion Craig Mintz sits fifth just 109 points out.

If Martin were to win Saturday, Jacobs would need to finish fourth or better to earn the track championship. If Brandon were to win then Dean would need to finish 4th to get the track championship. If Sebetto can win his second straight feature, Jacobs would need at least a sixth place finish to lock up the title.

And while the FAST champion will earn $10,000, if the same driver wins both Attica’s point title and Fremont ’s championship he will earn a $3,000 bonus in addition to each track’s championship money!

Saturday’s 410 feature will pay $3,000 to win and will start 22 cars.

Also, Hoserville Ohio is going to pay $100 to the driver finishing 17th in both the 410 sprint and 305 sprint features in tribute to Ohio being the 17th state. Hoserville Ohio will also put up $100 for the driver advancing the most positions in the late model and dirt truck features.

In the late model point battle, Ryan Missler is trying to make it three track championships in a row. Though he is winless in 2011, his consistent top 10 finishes has him 108 points ahead of five-time Attica champion Larry Kingseed while Mike Bores is 144 points back in third and former track champion Ken Hahn is 146 points out in fourth.

If Kingseed would win Saturday’s feature, Missler would need to start the A-main in order to capture the track championship.

Nate Dussel’s two feature wins has him 42 points ahead of former track champion Stuart Brubaker in the 305 sprint division. Defending track champion D.J. Foos has recorded two wins in 2011 and sits third in the points, just 91 out of first. Paige Polyak is 119 points out in fourth place while Dustin Dinan rounds out the top five.

If Brubaker would pick up the win Saturday, Dussel would need to finish ninth or better to claim the track championship – a Brubaker win and a Dussel 10th place finish would mean a tie.

In the dirt truck points battle, Bob Dible’s three feature wins has given him a 32-point edge over former track champion Art Ball while defending track champion Brian Arnold is just 51 points back. Steve Endicott sits fourth just 66 points back while Dwight Walterneier is fifth, just 68 points back.

If Ball would win Saturday, then Dible would need to finish 7th or better to wrap up the track title. If Arnold wins, then Dible would need a 9th or better finish.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing under way at 7 p.m. Saturday.

2011 Track Championship Point Scenarios

Saturday, August 27th is Kistler Racing Products/ All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads Season Championship Night. All four divisions will be competing for double points. Listed below are various scenarios on how the Attica Raceway Park Track Championship could play out for each division.

In the O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 Sprint Cars:
Dean Jacobs holds a 21-point lead over Brandon Martin, and a 30-point lead over Brian Sebetto. If Brandon were to win then Dean would need to finish 4th to get the track championship, if Brian were to win then Dean would need at least a 6th place finish to lock up the championship.

In the Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop UMP DIRTcar Late Models:
Ryan Missler has a 108-point lead over Larry Kingseed. If Larry were to win the feature then Ryan Missler would need to start the feature in order to repeat as track champion.

In the Fremont Fence Company 305 Sprint Cars:
Nate Dussel has to 42-point lead over Stuart Brubaker. If Brubaker pick up the win then Dussel needs to finish 9th to win the Championship. A 10th place finish would result in a tie.

In the Computer Man Inc. Dirt Trucks:
Bob Dible has a 32-point lead over Art Ball, Brain Arnold is 51-points back. If Art picks up the win then Bob would need to finish 7th or better. If Brian picks up the win the Bob would need 9th or better.
