By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) When the green flag drops for the 2010 racing season at Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway – two of the nation’s best weekly racing venues located 40 miles apart in Northwest Ohio – all of the sprint cars will be throwing clay on the wings of Goodyear Racing Eagles.
Attica Raceway Park hosts 410 winged sprint cars, UMP DIRTcar late models, 305 sprints and dirt trucks nearly every Friday night throughout the summer. Fremont Speedway plays host to winged 410 sprint cars, 305 sprints and dirt trucks nearly every Saturday night during the summer. The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champion sprint cars and World of Outlaws visit both tracks as well.
“Fremont Speedway was one of the first tracks in the nation to incorporate a spec tire for sprint cars several years ago and that tire was a Goodyear. We like the proposal Goodyear has because it helps the racers with tire incentives and helps the tracks maintain a good purse and point fund,” said Fremont Speedway Promoter Rich Farmer.
Attica Raceway Park Promoter John Bores agreed. “We look forward to working with Goodyear to help our race teams put on an entertaining night of racing for our great fans,” he said.
Goodyear has already signed on to be the official tire of the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champion sprint cars, the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and many other race tracks including Knoxville Raceway.
The three-year agreement between the tracks and Goodyear specifies the 410 and 305 sprint divisions will incorporate a Goodyear 200 right rear tire and Goodyear 100 left rear tire. The tires can be purchased at long-time track supporters Kear’s Speed Shop, Kistler Racing Products and Fisher Performance.
However, the UMP DIRTcar late models at Attica Raceway Park will run an open Hoosier Racing Tire rule until July 1, 2010. After July 1, teams will be required to run Hoosier LM 20, 30 or 40 compounds on both rear tires of their car. The front two tires will remain open to any Hoosier compound.
To help the local racers, Goodyear will work with both tracks to donate a tire to the Hard Charger Award winner each week in both the 410 and 305 sprint car classes. The Hard Charger will have the choice of selecting a front or rear tire.
Also, the top three in the 2009 point standings in the 410 sprints will get a free front tire every five races.
“Goodyear recognizes sprint car racing as one of the elite forms of motorsports. We have a strong history in sprint car racing and we look
forward to building on that tradition in 2010,” said Justin Fantozzi, Goodyear’s Marketing Manager of Global Race Tires.
“We are proud to be associated with two great weekly tracks like Attica and Fremont with their talented race teams and loyal fans,” added Fantozzi.
