By Chris Kettman – FAST Public Relations (Maumee, OH) The F.A.S.T. Championship Series is pleased to announce that for the 2010 racing season we will be adding a 10 race Championship Series for the 305 sprint division at Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway. “The whole F.A.S.T. idea continues to grow and allows us to do more for local racers with our resources,” said series co-founder Bryan Autullo. Using the model of the successful 410 series, the 305 schedule will consist of four weekends of back to back nights of racing plus the two track championship nights. A season point fund of nearly $15,000 in cash and prizes is also being secured.
The 305 division at the two Northern OH speed plants often puts on some of the most exciting racing in the state. “They almost always bring 30-plus cars to Attica and Fremont and continually put on some of the most competitive features each week. We hope to only add to the excitement that surrounds the 305 division,” adds co-founder Scott Porter.
For the 2010 season F.A.S.T. has secured Kear’s Speed Shop as the main contributing sponsor for the 305 Championship Series. In addition to the cash contribution to the season’s end point fund, each week the Top 3 drivers from the A-main will be entered into a random draw for a $100 “Kear’s F.A.S.T. Cash Bonus”. Located in Tiffin, Ohio Kear’s Speed Shop has been a provider of motorsports equipment to several local teams, as well as race teams throughout the country since 1969. “We really wanted to do something to give back to these guys who have supported our business over the years,” said Shirley Kear. “The F.A.S.T. Series has done a great job of taking care of the local racers and we wanted to get more involved this season when we found out about the new 305 Championship Series. This will be a great way for us to help these teams with our $100 cash bonus at each of the 10 events and we will also be contributing to the point fund at the end of the season.” The F.A.S.T. Series welcomes the enthusiasm for the 305 support division shown by the fans and sponsors. “Kear’s Speed Shop has been a fixture in the racing community for as long as I can remember,” said Autullo. “We want to thank them for helping us put something together for the 305 class.”
Also included in the 305 program will be the “Cleveland Golf / Srixon Driver of the Year Award” with cash paid to the Top 5 finishers in the season’s end point totals. Cleveland Golf / Srixon will award the series champion with $500 cash, $250 for 2nd, $125 for 3rd, $75 for 4th, and the 5th place finisher will collect $50. “It has been three years removed for me in sprint car racing,” said Nate Highfield of Cleveland Golf. “Since I live in Lansing, MI it just got tough for me to justify the spending on these cars being that I am never able to make it to the track anymore. Even though I haven’t been involved in a few years, I have still followed both the 410s and 305s at Attica and Fremont. When I heard that F.A.S.T. was trying to put a 305 deal together this year, I thought it would be a great opportunity to get back into racing again and give back to the 305 division.” Cleveland Golf has sponsored cars in the 305 division in past years and the F.A.S.T. Series is pleased to see them increase their level of involvement. Highfield went on to say, “I definitely have missed it and am looking forward to getting back to the track a few times this year to watch the action. It is going to be a great battle for the 305 F.A.S.T. series title and the Cleveland Golf / Srixon Driver of the Year Award.”
The inaugural F.A.S.T. 305 Champion will also take home a brand new chassis from Triple X Race Co. and a $500 certificate from All Pro Heads. In keeping with tradition, F.A.S.T. will also continue to provide weekly awards contributed by our contingency sponsors. “We are thrilled to be able to spread the wealth with the addition of the F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series. The F.A.S.T. concept has become popular enough to attract sponsors specifically wanting to help the 305 teams and we may be adding more as we get closer to Spring,” added Autullo.
The 305’s at Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway are a collection of veterans and up and coming racers alike, competing in the ultimate weekend racers division. In 2010, three time 305 track champion Paul Weaver will look to become the first ever combined winner as he goes wheel to wheel with former track champions John “Poison” Ivy, Stuart Brubaker, and defending Fremont 305 champ Todd Heuerman. Fan favorite Bobby Clark as well as young hot shoes Nate Dussel, D.J. Foos, and Brad Haudenschild are all expected to return to the ultra competitive division for the 2010 campaign. Known to be a “feeder” division, local heroes Phil Gressman, Mike Linder, and 2009 410 F.A.S.T. feature winners Chris Andrews and Brian Smith have all turned 305 championships into 410 success. Since 1988, 305 sprint cars have put on excellent racing programs for fans in Northern Ohio. F.A.S.T. would like to thank our new sponsors for coming on board in helping to give back to such an unheralded group of racers. Porter adds, “The 305 sprint car teams in Northern Ohio have always entertained the fans of these two specific tracks and now with the F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series it gives the driver’s a little more incentive to pull their belts tight and go racing.”
