By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) While the weather begins to cool, the action – and battles for the coveted Attica Raceway Park championships – heats up in August.
Ohio’s Finest Racing speedplant will wrap up its 20th anniversary season with three straight Saturday nights of racing – Aug. 16, 23 and 30.
World Auto Parts of Huron/Cleveland Night kicks off the move to Saturday action on Aug. 16 with the drivers in the 410 sprints, 305 sprints, Service Drive Solutions UMP Attica Late Models and dirt trucks trying to pick up valuable points toward the track titles.
Attica Raceway Park championships will be decided on Kistler Engines Season Championship Night, Aug. 23, as drivers will be competing for double points. Byron Reed holds a 38-point advantage over Mike Linder in the 410 sprints as the Monclova driver eyes his fifth title in the last six years and his fourth consecutive title. David Harrison is 61 points out and Chris Andrews is within striking distance, 79 points back. In the 305 sprints, Stuart Brubaker holds a narrow 56 point advantage over Bobby Clark. The late model title is very much up for grabs as Curtis Deisenroth leads Ryan Missler by a mere 30 points. In the dirt trucks, despite accumulating nearly half the feature wins, Cory Ward only leads consistent runner Brian Arnold by 45 points,defending champion Art Ball by 65 markers and Steve Endicott is within 71 points.
The 2008 season concludes in exciting fashion with the return of the Attica Ambush on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Aug. 30. Baumann Auto Group Night features the return of the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions who are experiencing a tight point battle of their own between Dale Blaney, Lance Dewease, Randy Hannagan and Greg Wilson as their season winds down. The Attica Late Models and dirt trucks will also be in action.
