Recently atticaracewaypark.com started monthly polls on the site’s home page to find out what you the fans thought were the most exciting race from each division that circled “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speed plant during 2008. The votes we counted for the 410-sprint car division and overwhelmingly the fine visitors of this site selected the Burns Electric Mid-Season Championship Night A-Main from June 6th in which Lee Jacobs scored a last-lap-pass to capture the checkered flag.
We stopped Lee Jacobs pit side while on the road with Leidig owned No. 59 J&J sprinter to reflect on his accomplishment that fan’s voted as their favorite 410 sprint car race of 2008 at Attica Raceway Park.
“When the caution came out with 7 laps to go, I knew we had the car to beat, but I just couldn’t make any mistakes. On the restart, I entered turn 1 with a little too much speed and got off the high side coming out of two and lost a few spots to Byron and Caleb and I thought I just blew my chances.
When that last caution came out with 4 laps to go, I was sitting in 4th behind Mike Linder, Paul McMahan and Byron Reed, but I was also starting to get pressure from Chad Blonde. I started think to myself ‘Man I might end up fifth in this deal.’ But on the restart when I got past Byron right away I knew I still had a shot. When I came to the white flag behind McMahon I had a really good run going into turn one and I actually thought I was going to clip his right rear going into the corner. When we came out of two I was right on Linder’s back bumper and going into three I knew he lifted too much and I had enough speed to beat him off of turn 4. It was my second win at Attica and my first last-lap-pass win and that was the most unbelievable feeling come from behind that group of cars in those 4 laps.
I have to thank the Burmeister Family and Mikie Summers for everything they have done, I know we have recently had a falling out, but it was a great 5-years running their car and I’m going to miss some of the good times that we have had. I also have to thank Mr. Mapus, Pro Shocks, Butlerbuilt, Bell Helmets, Kistler Race Engines, Classic Turning, and Outerwears.”
