By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) Only in Northwest Ohio can you mow your lawn wearing a t-shirt and shorts one day and shovel snow the next. That unstable spring weather has prompted Attica Raceway Park officials to cancel the Coors Light Spring Nationals featuring the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 6th and 7th.
A cold front moved into the area Wednesday and is forecasted to stick around through the weekend with high temperatures only in the 30s with nightly lows in the 20s, along with snow showers.
“It just wouldn’t be an enjoyable experience for the fans and race teams to have to endure that kind of weather. With temperatures below the freezing mark, track preparation and maintenance would be nearly impossible. We all remember the night several years ago when the track actually froze up…it was like an ice-skating rink during the B-main and the rest of the night was cancelled,” said Attica Raceway Park Operations Manager Rex LeJeune.
The good news is the All Star races have been rescheduled at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” venue. The April 7th show – paying $5,000 to win for the All Star sprints – has been reset for Friday, May 4th on Coors Light/ Underground Utilities/ Bazell Race Fuels Night. The Fultz Fabrication & Speedshop Attica Late Models will also be in action, running for $1,000 to win ($100 to start). The April 6th show – paying $3,000 to win and $300 to start for the All Star Sprints – will be made up on Friday, May 25th on Coors Light/ Fultz Fabrication & Speedshop Night. The American Late Model Series will also be in action that night.
“We really want to thank the fans and teams for such a great opening night (March 30). We were presented with some wonderful opportunities including a huge crowd and good racing that created some issues we will resolve such as getting the fans through ticket lines quicker and speeding up the program,” said LeJeune.
