Maffett Scores Attica Late Model Win In Only 2nd Night Out; Sebetto Claims 6th 305 Sprint Victory; Dible Gets Close Truck Win

By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) Wayne Maffett Jr. made only his second start of the year lucky on Friday, July 13, as he took home the $1,000 payday on Underground Utilities Inc. Night at Attica Raceway Park.

It was the Manfield driver’s 28th career win in the Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Attica Late Models, just two behind his father’s division leading mark at ARP.

“This is only our second night out this year. We had some major engine problems and I can’t say enough about Reedy Racing Engines for all the work they did to get us out here,” said Maffett beside his Wright Choice Auto Sales/ Mason Racing backed #40. “When you’re racing against guys like Jim Fleming and Larry Kingseed…Larry didn’t win five championships here by luck.”

Fremont’s Bryan Sebetto took the lead when Todd Heuerman slipped up on lap 11 and went on to score his 6th feature win of the season at Attica in the 305 sprints.

Image”Josh Meggitt gives me the best equipment I could ask for. We really have the car hooked up here. This has been the best year of my life,” said Sebetto, who announced he would be in a 410 sprint ride in 2008. “I can’t say enough for all the sponsors – Hot Shots Painting and Sandblasting, Frosty’s Put-In-Bay Bar, Gressman Powersports….without their help we couldn’t do this.”

Fostoria’s Bob Dible turned the tables on Art Ball to take the dirt truck feature win by a bumper.

“Lapped traffic made that one close. It feels good to get a win when you’ve lost a close one,” said Dible beside his Bob’s Machine Shop/Burns Petroleum/ BMS Engines backed #17.

In the 25-lap late model feature, Jim Fleming jumped into the early lead with Curtis Deisenroth, Maffett and Mike Bores in tow. The first of six yellows would fly on lap five with the running order Fleming, Deisenroth, Maffett, Bores and 7th-starter Larry Kingseed rounding out the top five.

Fleming would continue to lead with Kingseed moving into second on lap 9 followed by Deisenroth, Maffett and Ryan Missler. Maffett would move into third on lap 10 and would drive under Kingseed for second on lap 13. Maffett would begin to put the pressure on Fleming until he grabbed the top spot on lap 15.

In the 25-lap 305 sprint feature Todd Heuerman would jump into the early lead, with Coty Runion, Sebetto, Dustin Keegan and Matt Ferrell in tow. Heuerman would continue to ride the outside rim in the lead, as Runion’s ride went up in smoke on lap 3, moving Sebetto into second. Heuerman would slip off the high side of turn 2 on lap 11, handing the lead to Sebetto.

Sebetto would also utilize the high side to pull away while the battle for second was intense between Heuerman, Craig Kays and Keegan. With five laps remaining, the running order was Sebetto, Kays, Heuerman, Ferrell and 13th-starter Kevin Lee. Following a lap 23 caution, Sebetto would pull away for the win, with Heuerman, Lee, Ferrell and Keegan rounding out the top five.

ImageThe 15-lap truck feature was a fan’s delight, featuring side-by-side action throughout the field. Last week’s winner Cory Ward would grab the initial lead with Dible right on his rear bumper. Dible would drive into the top spot on lap three, with Ward battling back hard. Fifth-starter Shawn Valenti would move into second on lap 6, bringing 8th-starter Art Ball into third.

Dible, Valenti, Ball and Ward would race each other hard until they hit lapped traffic with just two laps remaining. Ball and Dible were side-by-side at the flag stand as the white flag flew, with Valenti right on their rear bumper. Coming out of turn four for the checkered, Dible split three lapped cars and edged Ball by a bumper for the win. Valenti, Ward, and Alex Wiechman would round out the top five.
