Big Money Up For Grabs At Attica Raceway Park In 2014

By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) More money will be up for grabs at Attica Raceway Park in 2014 – over $600,000 to be exact!

“We couldn’t do any of this if it weren’t for the great support we get from the race teams and fans and our exceptional business partners who sponsor billboards, race nights and our weekly divisions,” said John Bores, Attica Raceway Park Promoter. “We are all excited about the big events at Attica in 2014 and we will work hard to make sure everyone has a fun night at the track each week.”

Attica Raceway Park – Ohio ’s Finest Racing speedplant – will kick off its 26th anniversary season on Friday, March 28th with the O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 winged sprints, Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Models, and Foster’s Auto Body 305 Sprints.

The 2014 schedule includes 22 events from March through August and will bring in some of the biggest names in sprint car and late model racing. Highlighting the schedule will be the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series on Friday, May 30th with the Kistler Engines Classic paying $10,000 to win. Back for its second season will be the season-finale – a two-day affair featuring the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions and the Lucas Oil Late Model Series on Friday and Saturday, August 29th and 30th. The Lucas Oil Late Models will battle for $10,000 to win on Friday with the UNOH All Stars vying for $5,000 to win on Saturday for the Attica Ambush weekend.

The UNOH All Stars will make five appearances at Attica in 2014 including the traditional HD Supply Spring Nationals, Friday and Saturday April 4th and 5th. Saturday’s finale will pay the feature winner $10,000. Besides the Attica Ambush at the end of the season, the All Stars will kick off the 32nd Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek at Attica on Friday, June 20th.

The Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship Series presented by KS Sales and Service will battle at Attica in 9 events in 2014 including the May 16th Eric Phillips Anniversary Classic and the July 18th event – each paying $3,000 to win.
Not taking a backseat to the sprints, the UMP late models will have several must-see events at Attica in 2014. Attica Raceway Park and the NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway are teaming up for an 8-race challenge series – 4 events at each track. Attica will play host to the Super Late Model Challenge Series on May 2nd, June 20th, July 11th and Aug. 30th. Each event will pay $1,500 to win and $200 to start the feature event.

The popular Sunoco American Late Model Series will battle at Attica on Friday, April 18th.

The popular DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour will pay a visit to Attica on Central Ohio Farmers/Summit Racing Equipment Night, Friday, July 18th. The UMP Modifieds will also be part of the Hell Tour. And some of the best late model drivers in the world will help wrap up Attica’s season when the Lucas Oil Late Model Series comes to town on Detroit Chocolat Night, Friday, Aug. 29th for $10,000 to win.

Attica’s 2014 schedule also includes several key events for the 305 sprints including 5 JLH General Contractor FAST races. The 305 Engine Builders’ Challenge presented by Gressman Powersports and Level Performance will pay the feature winner $1,200 on Friday, July 11th.

The Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks will also compete in 11 events at Attica in 2014.

Attica has also scheduled special events for the younger race fans. Each week a bicycle will be given away to one lucky child. Also, the Junior Fan Club member of the week will give the “command” to start the races each week and will receive a t-shirt, picture and ride in the Baumann Auto Group Pace Truck. Attica will also pay tribute to all area scouts on Friday, May 9th – every scout and scout leader who wears their uniform to the races will get in FREE!

And, for one of the best “bang for your buck” events of the season, Fan Appreciation Night on Friday, July 4th will include $10 general admission, $1 hot dogs, 50-cent popcorn, a free souvenir race program and open pits before the races for autographs and pictures.

Race fans in the region can pay tribute to “The King” at Attica Raceway Park when the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series comes to do battle on Friday, May 30th.

Attica and Wayne County Form Late Model Challenge

By Mike Swanger: (Orrville, OH) With both tracks having highly competitive fields of Super Late Models with many of the regions best drivers competing at both tracks in the past and now with NAPA Wayne County Speedway switching to Saturday night racing in 2014, Promoters John Bores of Attica Raceway Park along with Jason and Kristin Flory of NAPA Wayne County Speedway announce the formation of an eight race Super Late Model Challenge Series this season.

Each track will hold four races during the season with each race paying $1,500 to win and $200 to start the feature with $60 for all non transfer cars. The Late Model Challenge Series will have it’s own point fund as a title sponsor is still being sought and a $10 entry fee for each race will be charged and added to the point fund.

The first night for the Late Model Challenge Series will be on Friday, May 2nd at Attica Raceway Park with the series in action the next night, Saturday, May 3rd at NAPA Wayne County Speedway. Attica Raceway Park will host the next two night for the series on Friday, June 20th and again on Friday, July 11th as NAPA Wayne County Speedway will resume the series on Saturday, July 12th and then on Saturday, August 9th. The final weekend for the series will be double points at both tracks as Attica Raceway Park will run on Saturday, August 30th and the final race will be on Sunday, August 31st at Napa Wayne County Speedway.

A tire rule will be in effect for both tracks with American Racers 44 or harder and Hoosier 1300, LM 20 or harder that will be allowed as each track will run their regular rules and race procedures.

2013 Banquet Recap

By Brian Liskai: (Attica, OH) Attica Raceway Park fans and race teams helped put an explanation point on the 25th anniversary season of “ Ohio ’s Finest Racing” speedplant at a gala banquet that crowned the track’s four champions and celebrated the rest of the top 10 in points.

Gibsonburg , Ohio ’s Craig Mintz wrapped up his second straight Attica championship in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 sprints. The 2013 Kistler Racing Products FAST champion competed in 14 events in 2013, missing only the Aug. 30 All Star show. Craig scored his 9th career Attica win on July 5. He recorded an incredible 11 top 10 finishes and 8 top five runs. Besides his win, he recorded four runner-up finishes! His average feature finishing position was seventh.

In the Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Models, Bellevue , Ohio ’s Ryan Missler scored an unprecedented fifth consecutive Attica championship. Ryan competed in all 15 features in 2013. Ryan recorded 10 top 10 finishes and six top five runs. He scored his 10th career late model win on the season’s final night. Ryan also scored three runner-up finishes. His average feature finishing position was ninth.

Bradner , Ohio ’s Nate Dussel scored his third straight track championship in the Foster’s Auto Body 305 Sprints. Nate, who was among the nation’s top sprint car drivers in terms of feature wins in 2013, competed in all 13 feature events in 2013. Take out his 20th place finish in the 360-305 challenge race and he never finished worse than seventh! Nate recorded 10 top five finishes including six wins – that’s nearly half of the features he competed in! Nate now has 11 career wins at Attica to move him into a tie for 11th on the track’s all-time win list. His average feature finishing position was fourth.

In the Bob’s Machine Shop-BMS Engines Dirt Trucks, Fremont, Ohio’s Dustin Keegan claimed his first ever track championship – by just a point. Dustin competed in all 9 events in 2013 and NEVER finished out of the top six! He recorded four runner-up finishes. Dustin’s average feature finishing position was fourth.

Attica Promoter John Bores announced all the major sanctioning bodies that competed at the track in 2013 will be back in 2014. He added the track crew is looking at addressing lighting issues around the track’s back stretch and more clay has been brought in.

10. Brian Smith, Fremont , Ohio – The 2004 Attica 305 sprint champion competed in 9 events in 2013. He recorded six top 10 finishes and earned his 2nd 410 feature win at Attica on April 26th. Brian’s average feature finishing position was 10th.

9. Stuart Brubaker, Fremont , Ohio – the 2008 Attica 305 sprint champion and last year’s 410 rookie of the year competed in 12 events in 2013. He recorded a pair of top 10 finishes including a season-best fourth on July 26th. His average feature finishing position was 15th.

8. Brian Lay, Genoa , Ohio – Brian competed in 14 features at Attica in 2013, missing only opening night. He racked up his first two ever Attica wins on July 19th and Aug. 17th. Brian recorded five top 10 finishes and besides his wins scored a pair of third place finishes. His average feature finishing position was 12th.

7. Duane Zablocki, Tiffin , Ohio – He competed in 12 events in 2013, recording a pair of top 10 finishes including a season-best 6th on July 5th. His average A-main finishing position was 13th.

6. Byron Reed, Monclova , Ohio – The 6 time Attica track champion competed in 12 events in 2013. He recorded 11 top 10 finishes and four top five runs. He picked up his 29th career 410 sprint win on June 14th and now has 29 for his career, good for second on the track’s all-time win list. Byron’s average feature finishing position was 7th.

5. D.J. Foos, Fremont , Ohio – The 2013 Attica rookie of the year and the 2010 305 sprint track champion competed in 13 features this season. DJ recorded 10 top 10 finishes and six top five runs. He scored a season-best runner-up finish on May 17th. DJ’s average finishing position was 9th.

4. Travis Philo, Waterville , Ohio – Travis competed in 12 events in 2013, recording five top 10 finishes. He scored his second career Attica win on July 26th. His average feature finishing position was 12th.

3. Chris Andrews, Sandusky , Ohio – The 2009 Attica 410 champion and 2006 305 track champion competed in 14 events at Attica in 2013, missing only opening night. Chris posted 8 top 10 finishes and four top five runs. He scored his fourth career Attica win on June 21st against the All Stars. He also had a runner-up finish and a pair of third place runs. Chris’ average feature finishing position was 10th.

2. Caleb Griffith, Sandusky , Ohio – The 2003 Attica 305 champion competed in all 15 A-mains in 2013. Caleb recorded an incredible 12 top 10 finishes and four top five runs. His best finish was back-to-back third place runs in June. He had a streak of 9 straight top 10 runs from April through July. Caleb’s average feature finishing position was 8th.

Rookie of the year – Josh Haynes, Fostoria, Ohio – Josh finished 12th in the final points and competed in four features in 2013, recording a season-best 9th on Aug. 17th.

10. Ken Hahn , Oregon , Ohio – The 2007 limited late model Attica champion competed in 9 events in 2013. Ken recorded three top 10 finishes including a season best 8th on Aug. 24th. His average feature finishing position was 13th.

Tie for 8th – John Bores, Bellevue , Ohio – John competed in 11 events in 2013, recording two top 10 finishes including a season-best 9th twice. His average feature finishing position was 13th.

8th – Larry Kingseed, Castalia, Ohio – A 5 time limited late model track champion, Larry competed in 11 events in 2013. He recorded a pair of top 10 finishes including a season-best 9th on June 14th. His average feature finishing position was 14th.

7. – Nate Potts, Clyde, Ohio – He competed in 11 events in 2013, recording 3 top 10 finishes including back-to-back season-best 7th place runs. His average feature finishing position was 13th.

6. Tim Sabo, Toledo , Ohio – He competed in 11 events in 2013, recording 4 top 10 finishes including a season-best 5th on Aug. 17th. His average feature finishing position was 13th.

5. John Mayes Jr., Clyde , Ohio – He competed in 12 events in 2013, recording 5 top 10 finishes including a season-best 3rd on July 5. His average feature finishing position was 12th.

8. Dan Hammond, Fort Seneca , Ohio – He competed 12 events in 2013, missing only the 360-305 challenge race. Dan recorded three top 10 finishes including a season-best 8th on April 26th. His average feature finishing position was 13th.

7. Ricky Peterson, Rawson , Ohio – Attica ’s 2013 rookie of the year competed in 11 events, racking up four top 10 runs. His season-best finish was a 6th on May 17th. His average feature finishing position was 12th.

6. Jason Keckler, Fremont , Ohio – He competed in 12 events in 2013, missing only the final race of the year. Jason scored 9 top 10 finishes, including the first 8 races of the season. He posted three top five runs including a season-best three third place finishes. His average feature finishing position was 10th.

Tie for 4th – Tyler Gunn, Napoleon, Ohio – The 2012 rookie of the year at Attica competed in 12 events in 2013, missing only the 360-305 challenge race. He recorded 8 top 10 finishes including a season-best pair of 6th place runs. His average feature finishing position was 11th.

4. Seth Schneider, Fremont , Ohio – A former Attica rookie of the year competed in 12 events in 2013, missing only the 360-305 sprint challenge. He recorded four top 10 finishes including a season-best 5th on May 17th. His average feature finishing position was 12th.

3. Jordan Ryan, Castalia , Ohio – He competed in 12 events in 2013, missing only the 360-305 sprint challenge. Jordan never finished worse than 8th! He recorded an incredible 10 top five finishes and scored back-to-back wins to close out the season. Jordan now has three career wins at Attica . Besides the wins he had a pair of runner-up finishes and two third place runs. His average feature finishing position was a remarkable 4th.

2. Dustin Dinan, Fremont , Ohio – He competed in 12 events in 2013, missing only the final race of the year. Dustin posted 11 top 10 finishes and a remarkable 10 top five finishes. He posted his first three Attica feature wins in 2013 – on May 17th, June 7th and July 26th. He also had three runner-up finishes and a pair of third place runs. Dustin’s average feature finishing position was 4th.

Art Ball, Tiffin , Ohio – A two-time street-stock Attica champion and the 2006 and 2007 dirt truck track champion, Art competed in eight events in 2013, missing only opening night for the division. He posted 6 top 10 finishes and three top five runs including a season best third on the final night. Art’s average feature finishing position was 8th.

4. Brian Sorg, Fremont , Ohio – He competed in 8 events in 2013, missing only the final show of the season. Brian scored 7 top 10 finishes and 4 top five runs including a season-best third on May 17th. His average feature finishing position was 7th.

3. Kyle Cline, Ashland , Ohio – Kyle competed in 8 features in 2013, missing only the final event. He posted 7 top 10 finishes and 4 top five runs including a season-best third on Aug. 24th. His average feature finishing position was 6th.

2. Daniel Roepke, Woodville , Ohio – Daniel lost the track championship by one point. He competed in 7 events in 2013 and NEVER finished out of the top three. He posted four wins – May 3, May 17, Aug. 17 and Aug. 24 – to run his career total to 7, moving him into fifth on the track’s all-time win list for the division. He also had a pair of runner-up finishes. Daniel’s average feature finishing position was second!
