9.2.06 Rained Out

By Brian Liskai: Attica, Ohio (Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006) – Who says Ohio doesn’t have hurricanes? Hurricane, then tropical storm Ernesto’s impact could be felt in Attica on Saturday, as persistent rains forced the cancellation of the 2006 season finale.

The Burger King Championship Night was washed out, putting an end to what would have been an interesting championship chase in all four divisions.

Monclova’s Byron Reed earned his third Attica championship over Mike Linder by 91 points. The rain-out means Sandusky’s Chris Andrews and Milbury’s Andy Shammo will share the 305 sprint title. Sandusky’s Larry Kingseed earned his fifth ARP title by 67 points over Jeff McCoy. The ageless wonder Art Ball, 67, of Tiffin, picked up the track title in the dirt trucks by just 8 points over Bob Dible and by just 19 points over Bryan Arnold.

“I want to thank all of the fans, drivers, teams and sponsors for their support…we learned a lot this year and look forward to even bigger and better things in 2007,” said first-year Attica promoter John Bores.

The date and location of the banquet for “Ohio’s Finest Racing” will be announced at a future date.
